CONCEPT OF COUNSELLING
Counselling is the service offered to the individual who is undergoing a problem and needs professoonal help to overcome it. Counselling is a more speacialized service requiring training exceptional groups of individual.
According to Willey and Andrew:-- counselling involve two individuals one seeking help and other a professionally trained person helped solved problems to orient and direct him to words a goal. Counselling service are required for individuals having developmental problems because of the handicap they suffer in any area of emotional either because of hereditary factor or enviorment condition. Counselling technique involve active, listening, understanding realising the feelings confronting the client and soon. Counselling therefore is offered to only those individuals who are under serious problems and need professional help to overcome it.
According to Brammer and Shostrom:-- is defined as a way of relating and responfing to another person , so that he or she is help to explore his thoughts,feelings and behaviour to reach a clear self understanding. Also the person is helped to find and use his or her strength to be able to more effectively with making appropriate decisions or taking appropriate action.
Counselling is helping a person to come to see who he really is what he has and does not have what he can do with difficulty and what he cannot do at all. It is a close sharing of a human relationship with one who can offer him unconditional acceptance but on who has no guarantees no answers.
MEANING OF COUNSELLING
In everyday life we find counseling goes on at many level. In a family parents counsel their children, doctors counsel patient,lawyer to client and teacher to student. There is no limitation to the problems or counsellors in providing counseling so let us know what counseling is ----- "counseling is an interaction process which facilitates meaningful understanding of self and environment and result in the establishment and or classification of goals and values for future behaviour. "

Webster Dictionary:--" Consultation is mutual interchanging opinion or debating together. "
C .V .Good:-- "Counselling is the individualised and personalised assistance with personal, educational,vocational problems in which all pertinent fact are studied and analysed and a solution is sought often with the assistance of specialists, school and community resources, and personal inerviews in which the counsellee is taught to make his own decisions."
Ruth Strong:--" Counselling is a face to face relationship in which growth takes place in the counsellor as well as the counsellee"
Wolberg:--"Counselling is the form of interviewing which the client is helped to understand himself more completely in order to correct an environment or adjustment difficulty "
Robinson:-- "The term Counselling covers all types of two person situations in which one person, the client is helped to adjust more effectively to himself in his enviorment."
CHARACTERSTICS OF COUNSELLING
☆ Counselling is a conversation with some one regarding some problems.
☆ In the process of Counselling the problem is made clear through discussion the counsellor explores the problems and its importance through his skillful questioning.
☆ Counsellors draws out the facts from the pupil through counselling process.
☆ He also informs the pupil certain facts.
☆ Counsellor guides the pupil to establish contact with various factors in the counselling process. He explain the importance of those facts which the pupil considers un-important.
☆ Counselling is a vital part of the entire guidance programme.
☆ Counselling is a only one aspect of guidance.
☆Counselling is a learning oriented process.
☆Counselling help the pupil in making selection and following those selection.
☆Counselling is a professional service.
☆Counselling is problem oriented.
☆ Best Counselling is in the form of the decision made by the counsellee.
☆ Counselling is possible in humorous and cooperative environments only.
☆ Counselling is completely based on self guidance.
☆ The term "counselling" cannot be used as a substitute for guidance, teaching, interview and psychotheraphy etc.

☆ Guidance and Counselling service is needed to help students deal effectively with the normal development tasks of adolescence and face life situations boldly.
