NEEDS OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING CENTRE
Students in the adolescent age group displaying growth and developmental, characteristics and having a variety of needs in physical psychological,social, educational,vocational and emotional areas from the chief client group of student.
There needs will have to be appropriated identified in order to provide a peaceful and productive frame of reference for the effective functioning of the educational institutions.
1)- Technical students have made substantial contributions to be national development by training and supplying technicians possesing adequate levels of knowledge and skills for undertaking supervisory and manage position in industry and related sector. In concerted efforts towards training quality technicians through institutionalized programme such as classroom laboratory workshop practices cocurricular and extra curricular activities a lot more needs to be done towards shaping the personality of students.
2)- The students who are in the prime of their adolescence and displaying characteristics and behaviour have vast potential, immence talents and abundent energy for productive,creative and socially. These are to be properly channelized through well planned, carefully executed and effectively monitored programmes.
3)- The students often come across a variety of problems of a multidimensional nature from students leading to the institutional activities damage to the institutional property and unsatisfactory intrapersonal relations affecting the personality development of the students. Promoting in them trait of cooperation and team work, attitudes temperament, persuing creative hobbies developing a high degree of discipline leadership qualities and their vision ensure the all round development of students and peaceful in them paying particular attention to the weaker, irregular and trouble making students and resolving their personal,social,emotional adjustment,placement, employment and educational problems is the responsibility of institutions.
OBJECTIVES OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING CENTRE
1)- Provide educational guidance and counseling to students
2)- provide vocational guidance and Counselling to students
3)- provide personal and social guidance and Counselling to students
PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING TO STUDENTS
* To identify special learners such as the creative and gifted to their needs and development.
* To identify the weak students diagnose their learning difficulties and organize remedial measures.
* To monitor the academic progress of students studying in the institution.
* To enable students to get an insight in to their potentialities strengths and weaknesses for learning.
* To assist students in getting information about further education and training.
PROVIDE VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING TO STUDENTS
*To collect information about job opportunities to students.
* To assist students to develop ability to analyse occupational information and make appropriate occupational choice.
*To provide information to students about self employment opportunities.
PROVIDE PERSONAL AND SOCIAL GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING TO STUDENTS
* To identify students who have problems of adjustment and help them resolve the same.
To proper values, habits,attitude,temperament for studies and work in studies .
*To assist in developing interpersonal relationships among students.
*To guide students in using time profitable and usefully.
*To assist students in maintaining sound mental health.
FUNCTION OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING CENTRE
To achieve the objectives spel out in the following task may have to be undertaken by the guidance and counselling centre:-----
1)- Developing physical facilities
2)- Organizing activities
3)- Establishing linkage
4)- Conducting evaluation
DEVELOPING PHYSICAL FACILITIES
* Identifying and procuring the required tests, tools program register etc.
* Obtaining necessary resources such as space,furniture.
* Deputing the identified staff for special training wherever necessary.
ORGANIZING ACTIVITIES
*Collecting and information about vocational occupational opportunities.
* Maintaining student data bank.
* Organizing group guidance programme.
*Conducting career conferences and case conferences.
* Conducting open house programme,guidance week
* Setting up a career corner
* Organize counselling sessions for resolving personal , emotional and social problems of students.
* Build up case bank of problems their analysis
* Monitoring activities of parent teacher.
ESTABLISHING LINKAGE
* Establishing proper linkage with industries, psychiatric employment bureau neighbouring institutions parents teacher association of schools and institutions.
* The nature of linkage is indicated as above.
CONDUCTING EVALUATION
* Design opportunities program for periodical reporting of the progress of the centre.
* Formulation of evaluation committee.q46* Review and appraisal of the performance of the guidance and counselling centre annually.
* Preparation of reports assessing the impact of the centre on the teaching learning process is the polytechnic and the overall development of students.
